Bob Gilbert's Katy Blog: Almost Speechless Sunday - Galveston Bay

Almost Speechless Sunday - Galveston Bay

Almost Speechless Sunday - Galveston Bay

As some folks know, our friend owns a Beneteau sailboat which is moored at the Houston Yacht Club in Shore Acres TX. . We spent Saturday night on his boat. This was the second time we spent the night and slept on his boat. My oldest step-son and his soon ( hopefully) to be fiance came down this morning and we went sailing for about 2 hours or so. The winds were blowing at 17-24 MPH. Sailors know how difficult it is to sail on a 38 foot boat in winds at these speeds. Our friend and my step-son are both very good sailors and we had a fun experience. I was concerned when the gusts were at 24 MPH and higher but no worries as everything went just fine. Obviously I am not a sailor to say the least.. LOL..

Below are a few pictures I took. As a side note, my IPhone which I used to take the pictures was taking forever to load the pictures onto my MacBook Air.. ??? I sent myself an Email with the pictures as an attachment. The loading is still taking place and it is now over 2 hours..

The up and down on a 33 foot boat is not the big issue, it's the roll from side to side and the feeling like it is almost going to tip

Bob, sounds like lots of fun for you all, and the waves does look quite choppy.  Good thing the sailors knew what they were doing.

My mother made one trip to Galveston, when she was 16.  She talked about that vacation for the rest of her days.

Good morning Bob.  Sailing in a stiff breeze is when it gets to be fun.  But not for the faint of heart.

I used to sail smaller boats and cats when I was younger.  I love to sail but haven't been since 1972.  Hope to revive the interest in a few years.
