Almost Speechless Sunday - Diamond Head State Monument Honolulu Hawaii

During our recent New Year's trip we hiked up Diamond Head State Monument. The hike is not that long in terms of distance but certainly is very challenging one. There are steep stairs and uneven steep trails along the route. The views on top and along the way of the Pacific Ocean and Honolulu are phenomenal. There is one tunnel which is pitch black. You are huffing and puffing for breath when you reach this tunnel and the darkness is scary. I had a young women bang right into me. The impact knocked her back and but did not move me but it was unnerving.

If we ever get the opportunity to return we will be much better prepared for this hike and have a flashlight with us.

There is a crater and an old bunker on the top. Yolanda said and she is correct there is no way I could made this climb up and down if I had not been following my exercise routine.  Stretching and Yoga poses assisted with being able to easily get on out of the narrow bunker. Numerous folks a lot younger than me struggled with either or both of getting in and out.

Here are few of the pictures:

Bob my friend you are funny knocking "young women down" and posting about it:))just kidding. This reminded me of a story of the famous boxer who was in his late seventies and early eighties and three punks tried to mug him in NYC because he was "old" well they found out he was in better shape than the three of them he beat the crappola out of them and they begged him to stop while the cops showed up...Endre

What a great example about staying healthy. Without it you would have missed a beautiful view.

Bob,

On our first anniversary we stayed at a hotel near Diamond Head.  The views were spectacular.  What a beautiful place to hike.  Next time, go see the Buddhist Temple there.  It has magnificent gardens, views and a gigantic gong!  Happy Sunday, great photos.  A

I've taken that glorious view in, a couple times in my life.  It's not a landscape that ever gets old!

What a view in all directions it seems. I would love to try this hike. Right now I have a good friend that is visiting Hawaii. I don't think this climb is on her agenda. She would never make it.

Gosh, Bob it seems like EVERYONE is heading to Hawaii from AR!! Actually, my next door neighbor has been scouting about the intenet looking to buy there and move from here (I'll have to hogtie him to keep him here, he's a wonderful neighbor). I told him that when he settles on an area, let me know and I'll get him in touch with an excellent realtor in the area, since we have a few!
