Music - Stevie Ray Vaughan of Texas Died on August 27, 1990

Stevie Ray Vaughan, who born and raised in Dallas TX., died on this day being August 27, 1990. The helicopter he was riding in crashed into a man made ski hill in Wisconsin. Along with him and the pilot were 3 individuals who were part of Eric Clapton's entourage who all died in this crash.

During 1971, he dropped out of High School and moved to Austin TX where his music career began in earnest. He is one of the best regarded musician’s who has ever come out of the State of Texas.

Stevie is widely considered one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of music.  He was one of the most important figures in the revival of blues during the 1980s. He had his own unique genre of blues and it is still very popular to this day. During the seven years of his widespread popularity he won numerous music awards.

Below is one of his songs that I personally really like being Crossfire.

I remember where I was when I heard the news.   I had just moved to California from Texas- and an old boyfriend called me from Texas to tell me.  We had seen Stevie Ray together- and he knew I would understand his loss.  Very sad!

We've lost some great musicians in plane crashes.  Others who comes to mind are Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Glen Miller, Patsy Cline, Rick Nelson, John Denver.

It is a big loss and wonder if it hadn't happened what other great things he would have done.

In the early 80s I got to see Stevie open for another group. After the show I met and talked with him for a minute behind the building.

We have lost so many in Airplane and Helicopter accidents. It is a shame, they were so talented!

Stevie was a very talented musician and as many said above it is too bad that he died so young.

Bob, between drugs and planes, we do lose the best musicians.    His music is classic.

Bob, I am not a follower of many in the music industry so this was a very informative post about Mr. Vaughn.
