Bob Gilbert's Katy Blog: Almost Wordless Wednesday - Istanbul Turkey

Almost Wordless Wednesday - Istanbul Turkey

Almost Wordless Wednesday - Istanbul Turkey

During Spring 2013 we were fortunate enough to get the opportunity to spend a few days in Istanbul, Turkey. I thought of Turkey as recently  I heard there was a travel advisory issued by US State Department stating American Citizens should not travel there due to potential danger. This advisory was issued after the failed military coup.

We had a great time in Turkey and we found the people to be very friendly and most we encountered liked Americans. Fascinating country with so many wonderful sites to see and new things to experience/learn including the call to prayer. Yolanda wishes she had gone back before these recent events took place. We did hire a local tour guide and that was the only way to go in my opinion for numerous reasons.

Turkey use to have a large influx of American tourist dollars every year but it appears they have shot themselves in the foot. I do feel bad for the general population of Turkey especially those who depend on Tourist trade to earn their living.

Gorgeous pictures, Bob. I've travelled all over the world and lived in the middle east, but have never been to Istanbul or Turkey. I've had a number of Turkish clients over the years and they are lovely people.

Bob, I remember spending a magical week in Istanbul a lot of years ago.  I stayed in the Pera Palace (this was long before it's recent renovation), and it was like stepping into a time machine.  I remember having some tomato soup that made me feel like we were all being had by Campbells.  And then there was the market.  What amazed me was how multi-lingual the Turks were.  I wish I could find my old pictures of the trip.  They're in a shoe box someplace.

Oh! And you and Yolanda might enjoy Charles King's Midnight at the Pera Palace.  It's a great history of modern Turkey and Istanbul especially.

Hello Bob

Turkey looks like an interesting place to visit and yes it is sad about what has happened over there!

Posted by Robert Vegas Bob Swetz about 4 years ago

Great pictures and I too like the one of the Grand Bazaar, so sad..

Turkey is a country rich in history . . . . I agree with Robert Vegas Bob Swetz comments, it's  sad to see what is happening in Turkey.

Good luck and success.

The recent unrest has been sad for countries like this that need tourism to help their local economy.

Turkey is where east meets west. It is a shame with the terrorist attack plus the failed coup. I hope things stabilize quickly.

Turkey is a great place to be especially Istanbul. The property in Turkey is exciting yet provides a great return on investment or buy-to-let on the beaches. You can see some objects and compare prices on the source I  found here https://turkishclassified.com that looks good to me.
