Katy YMCA Holds Annual Turkey Dash 2016
The Katy TX Family YMCA in partnership with Reliant an NRG Company will host its 14TH annual Turkey Dash on its traditional Thanksgiving day morning being November 24, 2016. A few years ago a 10K event was added and received significant positive feedback. This year there will be a 5K and 10K course as separating the events improves participants experience. In addition, there is also a family event named Kids one mile run plus family oriented 1 mile walk or run or both.
The proceeds from this Turkey dash as part of the YMCA’s continuing commitment to the local community will be used to fund various program scholarships and subsidies for Katy area families in need.
It is expected this year over 6,000 people will participate in this Turkey Dash and it raised more than $180,000 the last few years. Since year 2008, this event has experienced a growth rate of over 20 % each year and that trend is expected to continue this year.
Packet pickups can be made before the race at the Katy YMCA located at 22807 Westheimer parkway Katy TX 77494 starting on November 19, 2016 and running to November 24, 2016.
There will be the third annual costume contest for individuals and teams. Prizes will be awarded for “Best Thanksgiving Theme” and “Most Unique Costume”

There will be Kids fun zone, games, fun things to do and food available. The first event is the 1 Mile Kids Fun Run which starts at 7:10 AM. Other races follow. Lineup is 20 minutes in advance of the race start.
Parking is available at the Villagio Garage, The Fellowship at Cinco Ranch West YMCA lot,, and with overflow plus shuttle bus service running from 6:45 AM till 10:50 AM at the Target Lot on Westheimer Parkway. This event draws a large number of participants plus spectators and I advise getting up early and heading out just to find a parking spot!
